Terms of Service
Last updated September 2026
What you're agreeing to
These terms are between Pickup and the business that sets up an account — not the callers who reach that business by phone. Pickup is a phone answering service: a business connects its line to Pickup, and an AI receptionist answers calls, takes down what a caller needs, and can check availability and book on a connected calendar. By creating an account, the business agrees to these terms on its own behalf and on behalf of anyone at the business who uses the dashboard.
Early access
Pickup is currently in early access. Features described on this site and in the dashboard reflect what’s actually built and working; where something is planned but not yet connected, the product says so directly rather than implying otherwise. There is no billing system in place on this account yet — formal payment terms, invoicing, and cancellation-for-billing terms will be added before general availability, and businesses will be told plainly before any charge is introduced.
What the business is responsible for
The business is responsible for what it tells Pickup about itself — services, hours, team, and the rules its receptionist follows — and for correcting anything wrong before it reaches a real caller. Pickup discloses on every call that it’s a virtual receptionist and that the call is recorded; the business is responsible for confirming that answering and recording calls this way is lawful for its own jurisdiction and industry, including any professional or regulatory rules specific to its field. The business is also responsible for its own relationship with its customers and callers beyond what Pickup itself does on the call.
Acceptable use
Pickup can’t be configured to mislead callers about who or what they’re speaking to, to screen or discriminate against callers on a protected basis, or to give legal, medical, or financial advice it isn’t qualified to give — the receptionist itself is built to refuse instructions like these, and asking it to route around that refusal is a violation of these terms. More generally, an account may not be used for anything unlawful, or to send calls to a number without the right to contact it.
No warranty, and where liability sits
Pickup is provided as-is, without a warranty that it will be uninterrupted or error-free — it depends on third-party telephony, speech, and model providers (see the Privacy Policy for which ones), and an outage or mistake on their end is outside Pickup’s control. Pickup is not liable for indirect losses — a missed job, a lost customer — arising from the service being unavailable or from a receptionist making a mistake on a call, beyond what a reasonable business would expect from a tool still in early access. Nothing here limits liability where the law doesn’t allow it to be limited.
Ending an account
A business can stop using Pickup at any time; there’s no contract term or cancellation fee today, since there’s no billing yet to cancel. Pickup can suspend or end an account that violates the acceptable-use terms above, or that attempts to abuse the service — placing calls without the right to, for instance. Call data is handled after an account ends the same way the Privacy Policy describes for retention generally.
Privacy
What Pickup collects on a call and how it’s handled is covered separately in the Privacy Policy, which governs data handling alongside these terms rather than repeating it here.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change in a way that matters — especially once real billing terms are added — this page will be updated and the date at the top will change.
